“Siku Quanshu” Second and Third Lectures


On the afternoon of 30th October and 13th November, HKP invited Professor Zheng Dehua from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature and the Centre for Chinese History and Culture of the University of Macau to come to the school to give the second and third lectures of the series of courses of “Siku Quanshu” (Complete Library of the Four Treasuries) to the students of “Morning Sun Literary Club” (晨曦文學社) and all the Chinese teachers.

The lectures are themed “The Chinese History and Culture in Siku Quanshu”. Professor Zheng talked about the topic from four aspects, namely, an overview of the Siku Quanshu and Chinese history and culture, the Siku Quanshu and the development of the "four divisions" of Chinese bibliography, the compilation of the Siku Quanshu by Emperor Qianlong, the Siku Quanshu and the Annotated Bibliography of the Four Treasuries under the cultural vision.

Professor Zheng started with the origins and development of Chinese writing and books, and then explained in detail the origins and formation of the Siku Quanshu, and talked about the cultural value of the Siku Quanshu.

At the end of the lecture, Professor Zheng said that the completion of the Siku Quanshu is a major historical event in the history of Chinese culture, and that the achievement of the Siku Quanshu should be regarded as a great historical deposit of Chinese national culture. He encouraged students to not only learn from the meticulous and serious spirit of previous scholars in compiling the Siku Quanshu, but also to integrate contemporary technology and wisdom to carry forward the excellent traditional Chinese culture.

Teachers and students of the Club listened to the seminar with great attention and interest, and all of them expressed that they had learnt a lot from it. The seminar deepened their knowledge of the Siku Quanshu, strengthened their cultural confidence, and inspired them to have a sense of responsibility and a sense of mission in the transmission of Chinese culture.
