On Dec 9 2023, HKP held its annual open day in celebration of the 24th anniversary of the Establishment of Macao SAR. With the theme of "Gather the Talented, Create the Future", the Open Day featured tours of the school's characteristics and curriculum, a demonstration of the kindergarten, primary and secondary school curricula, booths showcasing featured courses, demonstrations of AI courses and innovative inventions, and students' talent shows.
Through a series of activities, the exhibition showcased the characteristics of HKP and its campus culture, and its the educational achievements to the public. The event was a great success with many guests interacting with teachers and students.
The Opening Ceremony was held at 9:30 a.m. Distinguished guests, including the directors and members from Hou Kong Middle School Parent’s Association and the Parent Alumni’s Association, members of the Macao Legislative Assembly, as well as our school principals, were invited to attend the Ribbon-cutting Ceremony. With the fall of the golden pin, hundreds of tiny colourful balloons flew out from the big blooming balloons and floated in the sky, forming a vivid picture on the playground. In the ceremony, students unveiled a colourful prelude to the Open Day with rhythmic dance, orchestra and folk music, and a costume show.
Principal Iao of Hou Kong Middle School said in his speech that under the care of the motherland and the SAR Government, the school has always been adhering to the mission of patriotism and love for Macao, adhering to the tradition of inheriting the fine Chinese culture and the principle of all-round development of morality, intelligence, physicality, sports, aesthetics and labour, and carrying out innovations and reforms, which has led to fruitful results.
He mentioned that in January 2023, Hou Kong Middle School was awarded the Medal of Merit in Education by the Macao Government, which is a great honour for all Hou Kong students and a great encouragement and encouragement to teachers and students. He added examples of the school’s accomplishments In PISA 2022, International Reading Test (IRT) for Primary School and "29th 21st World Cup National English Speech Contest Macau Regional Competition", which not only demonstrated the quality of the students' hard work and pursuit of excellence, but also all the teachers’ hard work and dedication. With the support of our country and the SAR Government, Hengqin School Affiliated to Hou Kong Middle School will be opened soon. After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the school principals and directors guided the guests and parents to visit the campus. The kindergarten, primary and secondary schools offer more than 30 experiential activities such as picture book storytelling, music games, STEM activities, wood printing, calligraphy, 3D animation programming, Chinese and English speech, Olympiad Mathematics, Model United Nations, Earth Science, SIG Technological Innovations and Inventions, AI courses, robotics, plant factories, and cross-curricular programmes, etc.. Guests were invited to walk into the classroom and experience the teaching and learning of teachers and students and learn about the innovative teaching and learning of the school.
In addition, two talent shows were held in the school auditorium, featuring instrumental performances, illustrated plays, choral singing, dancing, and recitation, which demonstrated the talent and all-round development of HKP students. The rich curriculum experience and wonderful programmes were enthusiastically attended by guests, parents, alumni and students, and the atmosphere was very warm.
