A group of 6 teachers and students from HKP were invited to Shenyang, Liaoning Province to attend the ceremony of welcoming the remains of the 10th batch of martyrs of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army (CPAA) in Korea, held at Shenyang Taoxian Airport on November 23, and the burial ceremony of the remains of the CPAA martyrs at the Resist America Aid Korea Martyrs' Cemetery on November 24.

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the victory in the war against the U.S. and North Korea, teachers and students witnessed the return of 25 martyrs to their homeland in the snowy sky.

The sacred and solemn atmosphere of the ceremony moved the teachers and students to a deep sense of respect. In an interview with China News Network (CNN), Ms. Tang, a history teacher at HKP, said that it was the first time that Macao compatriots were invited to participate in the event and that she was very emotional to have the opportunity to witness the return of the martyrs to their hometown.

Student Ada Chan said that the spirit of selfless dedication and patriotism of the martyrs of the Volunteer Army, who sacrificed their lives in a foreign country, was very touching. When she returns to school, she will share this experience with her classmates so that they can also feel the spirit of the volunteer heroes.

She said that thanks to the prosperity of the motherland today, the souls of the martyrs of the Volunteer Army have returned to the embrace of the motherland. Motherland is our eternal strong support. As the young generation of Macao, we should inherit the legacy of the martyrs, study hard and serve the motherland.

The country and its people have never forgotten the selfless contributions and sacrifices made by the martyrs of the Volunteer Army. After participating in this activity, HKP teachers and students gained a better understanding of the role of China in the Korean War, and realised that the new generation of Macao should learn from the patriotism and selflessness of our forefathers, and actively integrate into the development of the country to fulfil the responsibilities of the youth of the present generation.

74 years ago, the first Flag of China in Macau was hoisted at Hou Kong Middle School, and the education of patriotism is the aim of our school. This activity strengthened the teachers' and students' sense of patriotism and enhanced their sense of belonging to and pride in the motherland.
